A new car camping trip

Hello campers, hi de hi. This is a mish mash of photo's and a video of my first day of a trip to the Lakes on Tuesday. I took the A1M motorway north To Bedale in Yorkshire. Then went across the scenic Dales on the A684, through Leyburn, Aysgarth, and Hawes, and stopped for a break at Sedbergh. The church has a prominent position in the centre so that's where I headed first. 

A fascinating detailed tapestry hanging on the wall. 

I timed this visit right, there was a bonus. People started arriving with their instruments. It was brass band practice night. The song they played was 'John Browns body lies a mouldering in the grave.' Here is a version of it sung by the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge. I like this version by Paul Robeson.  

A quick look around the rest of Sedbergh. Need to head to my first parkup. 

Love the quirky decorations on the front of this cottage. 

A small lending library in the bus shelter. There are two book cases, one on each side, and poster decorations on the back wall. Anyone can sit there and read a book, or take it with you to bring back later. 

My chosen parkup for the night. Killington Lake Services on the M6. The sun was going down. 

Here is my bonus number two of the day. A 300 tonner crane pulled in, to do a heavy lift. Oh wow, me excited, got to watch this. They were working right next to where I was parked. 

Fully extend the outriggers.

Extend the boom and attach the chains. After a break they worked well into the night. I went to bed at 10pm, I was getting cold. By the morning they had all gone, job done. 

A morning coffee before I set off for the Lakes. A smashing first day. I am making this trip up as I go along. I have an idea of the route but not sure where I will be stopping next. The fun of exploring somewhere new.
