There is speculation about what sparked the riots in Leeds. It has been reported that a small child sustained injuries in it's home and was taken to hospital. The parents then went to the hospital and removed the child to take it home. Social services were involved with the case and they summoned the police to assist them with taking the child into care.
Eruptions started when the local community realised what was happening. There is footage circulating of the police gaining entry to the house and literally dragging screaming children out of the front door and bundling them into police cars. Five children were removed.
We don't know the back story to this. We don't know the circumstances that led up to this chain of events. Mistakes have been made in the past about social services being heavy handed in dealing with instances of suspected child abuse. But also mistakes have been made when children at risk have been returned to their abusive parents, and a child has lost it's life.
Seeing those children being forcibly removed by police officers in uniform must have been a terrifying experience for them. The memories will be imprinted on their minds forever. Surely there must be a better way of solving what is thought to be a possible crime. But who know what kind of a life they had that they needed rescuing from.
We are not in a position to judge how other people live their lives. There is a whole new discussion on how our Government are forcing people to live alongside those they have nothing in common with. Different cultures, different religions, different backgrounds, all together in a big melting pot. People are angry for all sorts of reasons. The main one, in simple terms, is that they don't like each other. The melting pot will bubble over more often in the future. I predict there will be more riots
Mayze is in her happy place outside the back door this morning, on her pet bed which is now rather flat due to umpteen washes. Here she will stay until it gets too hot, then she will seek out some shade underneath the table.
