1940's market in Chesterfield.

Good morning, it's Saturday. Now I play catchup with the photo's and videos from Thursday/Friday. Sorting them out and putting them in some kind of order. What a lovely day for  1940's market in Chesterfield. I parked a couple of miles away by the side of the canal, and walked into the town centre. A good plan I thought. Look at the happy smiley faces. People had made an effort to dress up and were happy to pose for photo's.
Lucky man with four lovely lady friends.
People were having picnics on the grass, as you can see in the background of this photo.
Laurel and Hardy were very entertaining to watch. I have no idea who the lady is, there was a steady stream of people waiting to have their photo taken with the famous duo.

Old comrades chatting. Is that Hilda Ogden with the headscarf wrapped around her head. Remember how women use to do that. Tie a knot at the front.

Oh my. So busy, Everyone has a camera.
Lovely old pub.
I took a walk around Chesterfield for a break to see what else there was. I have been here three times before. The Town Hall is a splendid building.
I followed the signs for Queens Park. It was buzzing with children running around in the sunshine. The train driver had finished for the day and was parking up the train. I was lucky to get two pics before it disappeared out of sight.

I finished up back at the market to see the stallholders packing up their wares. The Market Place is being modernised. Half of it is finished. Brand new paving stones, and brand new sturdy wooden structures to house the stalls. No more setting up of gazebo's for market days for fear of them blowing down. That will make the job easier for those wishing to trade.
A quick look inside the church with the twisted spire, and a purchase of two bars of my favourite soap. I have been here before.

Time to walk the two miles back to my car. This is a two day trip, I wonder where I will be car camping tonight.
Thanks for popping in. Enjoy your weekend. Toodle pip.  ilona
