Welsh getaway part 7

After my morning coffee at Magor Services, I set off towards home. Day four of my Welsh trip. I will take the scenic route across country and pick up the M1 motorway somewhere near Northampton. Who knows what I will find on the way. 

I like a paper map. I have an old 2008 Philips Motorists Atlas of Britain. It's a handy size. It has all the information in it that I need. All the touristy places are marked in red, so you can plan a route to take some of them in. 

From the services I made sure that I did not cross either of the two bridges over the River Severn. I want to stay on the north bank and head for Gloucester. The two motorways split and I took the M48 towards Chepstow. I quite fancied a look at Chepstow, but thought no, maybe I don't have enough time. I want to crack on. It was easy to get onto the A48 heading north. 

I had picked out Lydney for a possible stop. Never been there before, small town, so worth a look. I found some free parking. I spotted a sign for the railway, one mile, that might be interesting. There is a massive free car park here at Norchard Station. I wandered around. People were arriving to get the trains up and running for the day. I was too early for a train ride, and it was too long to wait for them to start. I took some photos. 

Get your train tickets here at the booking office. 

There is a smashing gift shop selling everything for the steam train enthusiasts. 

There is a map on the wall giving information of the line, from Lydney Junction to Parkend. 

I walked back into town and found the start of the line. It joins the mainline railway line here. 

I sat on a bench next to Greggs shop and did some people watching. Time to move on. Where to next. Follow me. Toodle pip.   ilona
